I have been a photographer for over twenty years and previously owned and operated Maureen Haldeman Photography in Malibu, specializing in portraiture. In the past, I have been commissioned for special projects and my photographs have become part of private collections. I have exhibited in various Malibu & Los Angeles locations and recently finished a three-month exhibit at The Happening Gallery in Marina del Rey. Over the years, I have been awarded prizes for my work, including from the Malibu Arts Festival where I have exhibited several times. I have also taught photography at Santa Monica City College.

As with most artists, my aim has always been to create a unique vision and through my photographs I try to express my perception and interpretation of the world around me, rather than create a mirror image of it. I am inspired by my love of Impressionism; the visual experience and effect of light and movement on the appearance of the subject, unconcerned with the actual depiction of objects, is very well suited to the medium of photography. My photographs emphasize the visual effect of texture and color instead of detail in a scene; they are about the mood of the moment. I try to capture the essence of the scene ... and to create a slightly off-balance view of reality.

I have always been interested and involved in the arts and was recently appointed as a member of the Malibu Arts Task Force to implement a public arts policy for the city. I am also a member of the Malibu Film Society, and volunteer to document its events.
