Artist Statement

"It has been a rewarding journey, making new friends along the way, teachers, models, and fellow artists, all sharing a common goal; to keep the spirit of painting and learning alive. I am challenged by an inner search for good design, color and drawing.

Working in a variety of locations and painting from life, to me, is the most rewarding. Whether it be, a portrait, landscape, seascape, or genre painting. I am searching for my individual vision of the subject. The paint surface and design of color shapes sometimes take precedence over a rigid copy of the subject."

Though Ray Harris has worked in the film industry for over twenty-five years, it is his painting, which has developed a name for the Artist.

Ray was born near Hannibal, Missouri, in 1952 and moved with his family often before settling in Texas. His father worked for N.A.S.A. and helped “put a man on the moon.” His mother raised six children and encouraged Ray’s interest in the Arts at an early age.

In 1970, Ray moved to Southern California and received a B.F.A. from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He continued his studies by traveling extensively and developed a tendency to work out of doors and from life.
